6th Graders Get Motivation to Write in Language Arts Class

Kathleen Pulizzi Borgess from Wiliamsport Orthopedic and Prosthetic Company spoke to our students about the field of orthopedics and prosthetics. She brought in a below knee prosthesis (all three stages) for the students to see. She spoke with them about the main causes of amputations in the US, and how a prosthesis can assist a amputee in leading a very normal life.

Presentation was followed by a lesson comparing and contrasting the services provided by the field of orthopedics and prosthetics to the services provided by the men and women of our military. We had a presentation last week from Staff Sargent Christopher Bain retired. Chris spoke with the students about his experiences in Iraq back in 2004. The students took notes during the presentation and then wrote a newspaper article about Chris.
